Road Trip no 2- I-80 West to CA-49 N to Hwy 395 South

So I went on a little road trip yesterday, just a little loop through the Tahoe National Forest. You know, going over the California border is like going into another country. You have to go through "customs". They used to just ask if you had any fruit, now they ask where you are coming from and how long you are staying...just like going into Canada...it was so weird.

I went to this neat little cemetery that looked quite new, however, many of the headstones had dates that were old. I decided that this cemetery must have been moved. What I really liked about many of the headstones was the pictures that some of them had.

From Flip:

"in what way did the cemetery seem new, as opposed to a neat, well kept property with the headstones et al cleaned?
The road you circled into CA on, was it a hwy or just a road? do you think CA has a stop at all roads in that area? I think, at first thought, the state of CA is making use of the funds provided by the US toward stepped-up security post 9-11. Oh well. Kinda like the Orwellian future in 1984."

I felt it looked new because none of the headstones were worn in any way. The area was windy and the sun was beaming, there would be some kind of degeneration on a headstone that was 80 + years old. But it was very well kept, new stone "gardens" on everyone and new fake flowers. It was very quaint.

I was on a hwy. The stop was just along I-80 (I should fix that, it is an interstate), but there is a truck stop for fruits along the border on Hwy 395 and I know there is a "Customs" like stop in San Diego where they look for Illegals and drugs and that is pre 9/11. But all the little roads are fine. I-5 didn't have a stop.
